NASCO held its 12th annual Contract Security Washington Summit on June 13-15th, 2017. The D.C. centric event featured speeches and presentations from several members of Congress, officials from the FBI and DHS, executives from the U.S. Chamber and the Professional Services Council, D.C. insiders, labor and employment experts, as well as executives from an innovative company serving the security market. There was a great blend of content and socializing for NASCO members and other invited industry members.

NASCO Contract Security Industry Leaders’ Roundtable Held February 14-16, 2017

NASCO held it's annual Contract Security Industry Leaders' Roundtable on February 14-16th, 2017.  The event was well attended by executive level representatives from over twenty-nine contract security organizations, including fifteen current member companies.  Presentations and discussions covered a variety of areas specifically affecting the contract security industry and attendees also enjoyed a wonderful pool-side reception as well as a dinner at a fine beach-side restaurant.

NASCO Members Universal Services of America and AlliedBarton Security Services Officially Merge and Become AlliedUniversal

On August 1, 2016, AlliedBarton Security Services and Universal Services of America finalized their merger to form Allied Universal, a security services and solutions company. The new organization, with more than 140,000 employees, is the largest security services company in North America. For more information go here.

Eleventh Annual NASCO Washington Summit Wrap Up

From June 13 - 15, 2016 over 50 NASCO member and other contract security company and related industry executives attended the Eleventh Annual NASCO Contract Security Washington Summit for two and a half days of presentations and discussion on topics of importance to contract security companies. The Final Summit Agenda is here.  While pressing legal, labor and employment issues were given their due, given the location, the Summit traditionally focuses on federal and legislative issues, and there was much to discuss at this year’s Summit. With FBI Office of the Private Sector Director Brad Brekke, in the immediate wake of the Orlando shooting, the issues of how the FBI can better communicate with security officer employers as well as the long-time industry desire to obtain better access to FBI background checks were discussed. There was also a timely presentation on insider threats and radicalization in the workplace. With Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), a member of the House Transportation Security Subcommittee and with Chris Bidwell, the head of government affairs for the Airports Council International – North America, the conversation was on ways, including legislation, to better inform airports about the relative performance of federal and private screeners and how to make it less difficult for airports to join the Screening Partnership Program that allows airport to use private screeners under TSA supervision. Recent developments and legislation related to the Federal Protective Service (FPS) Protective Security Officers Program (PSOP), which involves over 14,000 private security officers protecting federal facilities were discussed with FPS and congressional staff, and the traditional Summit closing presentation by U.S. Chamber of Commerce Political Director Rob Engstrom on the upcoming Presidential and Congressional elections was incredibly interesting and insightful. As with the Roundtable, also held in conjunction with the Summit was a “Legal Forum” meeting which featured detailed presentations and discussion on federal, state and industry legal and employment issues including paid sick leave, background checks, and federal executive actions affecting employers and federal contractors
